Intro to Meditation

In this foundational class you will learn and practice: various meditation postures, the “Three Foundation Stones”, the “Five Fingers of Zen” and the “Seven Eyes of Meditation”. This class is recommended as a prerequisite to all other classes and training at the temple.

Fundamentals of Buddhism

This is a class for those new to Buddhism who want to learn something of the basic principles and practices. Participants will learn about the Three Marks of the Dharma, the Four Noble Truths, The Noble Eightfold Path, and the Four Immeasurables, as well as some of the basic protocols of temple practice. In addition, some very basic meditation instruction will be given.

Intermediate Buddhism Class

This class will be available to anyone who has completed the class on Beginning Buddhism taught by Hung Su. The class will delve deeper into key Buddhist principles valuable to developing and expanding your unique practice.

Cost: $50 per person, $80 per couple for both days

Introduction to Pure Land Chanting

Pure Land Buddhism is one of the largest schools of the Practice. Pure Land is also intimately connected with the Chan/Zen school. Chanting has always been an important part of the experience of Pure Land Buddhism. Please join us at the Grand Rapids Buddhist temple for an introduction to the practice of Pure Land Buddhism chanting. The event will be guided by Ven. Hung Su.

Exploring Truth - Women’s Spiritual Wellness Group

This discussion group is a consolidation of immediately applicable ideas from Buddhism, neuroscience and western psychotherapy. Materials for discussion by Pema Chodron, Ram Dass, Sharon Salzburg, Thich Nhat Hanh, Mark Nepo and others.

All materials provided and includes articles from various sources, videos, podcasts and films. Cost is $60.00. Held at the Grand Rapids Buddhist Temple and Zen Center where all proceeds will be donated. Woman of all faiths and beliefs are invited to participate. Group size is limited to only eight women, so register early. This discussion group is facilitated by Susan Massaro McFarland.
