Intro to Meditation

In this foundational class you will learn and practice: various meditation postures, the “Three Foundation Stones”, the “Five Fingers of Zen” and the “Seven Eyes of Meditation”. This class is recommended as a prerequisite to all other classes and training at the temple.

Fundamentals of Buddhism

This is a class for those new to Buddhism who want to learn something of the basic principles and practices. Participants will learn about the Three Marks of the Dharma, the Four Noble Truths, The Noble Eightfold Path, and the Four Immeasurables, as well as some of the basic protocols of temple practice.

Intermediate Buddhism Class

This class will be available to anyone who has completed the Fundamentals of Buddhism Class. The class will delve deeper into key Buddhist principles valuable to developing and expanding your unique practice.

Silent Retreat

Yongmaeng Jongjin means “Fearless Practice”. Silent meditation-based retreats can be a crucial way to “jumpstart” your practice. It is a time for you to disconnect from everyday worldly affairs and to become deeply intimate with the inner workings of your mind as you deepen your concentration practice. Retreats are typically reserved for students of the Buddha-dharma or those with serious meditation experience.

Daily Schedule

  • 5:00-5:45 am: Wakeup/Exercise

  • 5:45-6:00 am: 108 Prostrations

  • 6:00-8:30 am: Meditation (3 sitting and 1 walking)

  • 8:30 am: Breakfast

  • 9:00-10:30 am: Cleaning/Rest

  • 10:30 am-1 pm: Meditation/Interview

  • 1:00 pm: Dharma Meal

  • 1:30-2:30 pm: Rest

  • 2:30-5:45 pm: Work Practice

  • 6:00-7:00 pm: Snack/Rest

  • 7:00-10:00 pm: Meditation/Interview

  • 10:00 pm: Retire
